One of our biggest partners is UNCW Marinequest.  A few years ago I was very fortunate to write a program that involved Surfing, Marine Biology, Oceanography and the Science of Surfing.  This camp has been one of my pride and joys.  Here is a little bit more info on the camp.

Surf-n-Science Groms: Ages 10-13

Must have completed 4th grade and turn 10 by June 1st

Get stoked for a “swell” week of learning the science behind surfing while you rip it up on the big blue ocean with Surf-n-Science Groms! This week long program has paired surfing with marine science to provide young marine enthusiasts the opportunity to develop surfing skills while gaining a foundational understanding of modern marine science. Learn how marine science has inspired the way surfing has developed into the amazing sport it is today through an exciting week of “hands-on feet-wet” field-based and laboratory activities. Explore ocean physics and board design, and compete in a MarineQuest beginners surfing contest.  Familiarize yourself with surfing and paddleboarding equipment, techniques, and safety while gaining the skills needed to become a lifelong surfer.  You will leave Surf-n-Science Groms with a surfer’s tan, a scientist’s brain, and a smile on your face!
