Over the weekend Odysea Surf School Instructors volunteered their time with Ocean Cure our non-profit partner. We were able to take some 50 very special people out for their first surf!! This amazing group were members from the Wounded Warrior Project! We had Marines, US ARMY, US NAVY and the Coastguard here in town learning 2 sports that we love, paddleboarding and surfing. The weekend was a huge success, we surfed and paddleboarded from ages 4 to 70. What makes these camps so special is the fact that families get to bod together with loved ones that are battling some very serious issues such as PTSD. To see the children and parents smiling, laughing and having a great time makes it all worth it! One family conveyed to us that the father has been really struggling to bond with his children and this experience brought them back closer together. When we set out 6 years ago to bring these camps to our local beaches we never anticipated the success it would bring. We also feel very fortunate to be able to call Carolina Beach home and give back to this great city. The WWP visits many of the local establishments from the restaurants to the hotels. Thanks so much to all the great Surf Instructors who came out to help!!
